"Courage is not the absance of fear, but the triumph over it." -Nelson Mandela
In our honors literature class we studied serveral works that centered around the need for change and the people who had the courage to do it. We believe courage is when you over come your fears of standing up for what you believe despite the consequences you know will result. Countless people have had the courage to speak out against racism, in hopes for a united nation unaware of color. Nelson Mandela, Alan Paton, and Martin Luther King Jr. had this courage. Acts of valor performed by these men have helped change society's views of blacks. Each of them wanted to see a time where all people are seen equal through everyone's eyes, black or white, and bravely went through the trails because of this dream. Courage is why this nation has progressed beyond the years of oppression.
